Please read this page carefully. The information given below is there to help you prepare, not only for your interview, but also for your future if accepted on to your chosen programme.
The National Curriculum
All applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the National Curriculum before interview.
You may also wish to read the Times Educational Supplement to keep up to date with current issues.
Interview Format
Applicants are normally given at least two weeks' notice prior to the arranged interview date. However, we can not always guarantee this, especially when we are nearing the end of recruitment. Therefore, prospective students must take into account the possibility of being asked to attend at short notice.
Candidates are interviewed by lead iTeach academic staff in a two-stage process as follows:
- A group interview including a collaborative activity, a short numeracy test and a written task.
The written task in the group interview will be based on your response to a quotation regarding learning. Your ideas and experiences of what learning is and how it happens should be reflected upon in preparation for this interview.
- An individual subject-based interview with a specialist tutor and possibly a school teacher.
In the subject interview you will be asked questions on the relevant National Curriculum (which you should have read), the ways in which your subject can be taught, and your subject knowledge. You will be expected to show an enthusiasm for engaging children in the learning process and be able to say how your subject knowledge can be developed. Those candidates who have recent experience of working or observing in schools will be at an advantage. As part of this interview you should fill in the subject knowledge audit and bring two completed copies to the interview.
As well as helping us to select suitable candidates, the interview process is intended to help you confirm your decision to study the iTeach programme. The activities are challenging, but we also hope they are fun and rewarding. Candidates are also supplied with information about the structure of the teaching, learning and assessment whilst on the programme and school placements.
