Course Delivery
Minimize

All study materials are delivered through HELMS, the Higher Education Learning Management System, providing students with round-the-clock access to:

  • On-demand content and live online tutorials
  • Downloadable podcast and PDF versions of lessons and recordings of tutorials
  • All administrative information such as course calendars, timetables and assessment information
  • An extensive online library database
  • Discussion forums, blogs and other community-style features
  • E-mail and messaging services to colleagues and tutors
  • Personal e-portfolios of coursework

HELMS provides an easy-to-navigate, intuitive, attractive interface through which students can access all information and online content related to their course.

There are two main aspects of the online course delivery: on-demand interactive lectures and study materials which students study in their own time, and synchronous virtual tutorials with subject tutors which students attend as part of a tutorial group. As part of the formative assessment process online tutorial sessions may also be used for peer-to-peer presentations to assess subject knowledge alongside the ability to communicate ideas clearly and accurately.

Live Virtual Tutorials
Minimize

On-demand lessons are accompanied by scheduled live classes where students and tutors can interact as if in a normal classroom.

In the virtual classroom, the tutor is able to show slides on a whiteboard, and share documents, web sites or software with students on-screen and facilitate discussions on the material. All students can communicate (by voice and text) with the group or privately with the tutor.
