All study materials are delivered through HELMS, the Higher Education Learning Management System, providing students with round-the-clock access to:
- On-demand content and live online tutorials
- Downloadable podcast and PDF versions of lessons and recordings of tutorials
- All administrative information such as course calendars, timetables and assessment information
- An extensive online library database
- Discussion forums, blogs and other community-style features
- E-mail and messaging services to colleagues and tutors
- Personal e-portfolios of coursework
HELMS provides an easy-to-navigate, intuitive, attractive interface through which students can access all information and online content related to their course.
There are two main aspects of the online course delivery: on-demand interactive lectures and study materials which students study in their own time, and synchronous virtual tutorials with subject tutors which students attend as part of a tutorial group. As part of the formative assessment process, online tutorial sessions may also be used for peer-to-peer presentations to assess subject knowledge alongside the ability to communicate ideas clearly and accurately.
